Bo Arne Vibenius’ savage revenge film Thriller: A Cruel Picture aka They Call Her One Eye is in desperate need of a high-definition upgrade. Released way back in the early 2000’s by Synapse Films in an Uncut DVD featuring the director-intended hardcore inserts and then later re-released by Synapse in an edited “Vengeance Edition,” the film has not had a digital release since. David Zuzello’s Tomb It May Concern blog has an excellent series of posts on Thriller and it’s eccentric creator.
Thriller has been recently restored by the Swedish Film Institute. This edition was shown at the Alamo Drafthouse in 2017 with star Christina Lindberg in attendance. Hopefully at some point in this future this restored version will debut on Blu-Ray somewhere in the world.
Late 2021 Update – Synapse Films have opened pre-orders for a Thriller Blu-Ray scheduled for release in March while Vinegar Syndrome have also announced plans to release a 4K UHD blu-ray of the film.
